Best Time to Visit Mussoorie: A Season-by-Season Guide

October 3, 2026

Mussoorie is a year-round hill station, but each season feels very different. Here is what to expect so you can pick the right time for your trip.

Summer (April to June)

Pleasant days and cool evenings make this the busiest season. It is perfect for families escaping the plains heat. Expect crowds on Mall Road and at Kempty Falls, and book stays and cabs early.

Monsoon (July to September)

The hills turn deep green and clouds drift through town. It is quiet and beautiful, but heavy rain can bring landslides and slow traffic. Keep plans flexible and travel by day.

Autumn (October to November)

Clear skies and crisp air bring some of the best Himalayan views of the year. This is also when the famous winterline, a glowing band of colour on the horizon at sunset, is often seen.

Winter (December to February)

Cold days and freezing nights, with a chance of snowfall, usually in late December and January. Higher spots like Landour, Lal Tibba and nearby Dhanaulti are the best bets for snow. Roads can be slippery, so travel with an experienced hill driver.

Quick picks

  • For snow: late December to January.
  • For clear mountain views: October to November.
  • For fewer crowds: weekdays in March, or September after the rains.
  • For family holidays: April to June.
